Who Crumb Club is for

You've never baked from scratch

Not sure what "cream the butter" means? Every lesson defines the terms and shows you what each step should look like.

Your bakes keep going wrong

Recipes rarely say what to do when something fails. Our troubleshooting guides start with the problem and work back to the cause.

You want the "why," not just the "how"

Once you understand what butter, flour, sugar and heat are doing, you can rescue almost any recipe.

Three tips that fix most beginner bakes

1. Weigh your flour

Scooping straight from the bag packs in extra flour. One cup of all-purpose flour should weigh about 120 grams. A $15 kitchen scale ends the guesswork.

2. Check your oven

Many ovens say they're ready before they actually reach the set temperature. An inexpensive oven thermometer shows the real heat.

3. Read the recipe twice

Read it once to understand it and once to gather your ingredients. Many "fails" are a missed chill time or an ingredient left at the wrong temperature.
